- One of my interests is astronomy, strictly as an amateur.
I have built 3 telescopes so far, (all refractors), their construction
was dependant on the main
lenses that I have managed to acquire. Most of the extra bits and bobs came from
[ Beacon
Hill Telescopes. ]
The first made was Keith
(see main picture). Keith is a 2.5" refractor using an achromatic lens I
bought in Tokyo. At f/10 this is fine for planets and the moon. The second
called George is based on a 9" Wray triplet. Because of its weight
its mount is based on a car jack principal with a windscreen motor to erect it.
At f/4 it suffers from chromatic and spherical aberration but is a fine ``light
throat". The last one, Kevin, was cannibalised from a 2.5" f/6
refractor given to me by an old boyfriend of my daughter. It is mounted on a
camera tripod and is a fine nebula hunter.
